The I.D.E.A. Shanty

Picture
The I.D.E.A. Shanty (Innovation, Design, Energy, Art) is a space where art and science intersect and where recycled materials and renewable resources are at the forefront of interactive experimentation, creation, and play. We are building a working wind turbine to generate electricity that will power the projects taking place inside the shanty. The programming is being developed in partnership with the Science Museum of Minnesota's Design Team youth program.

Art Shanty Projects is an artist driven temporary community exploring the ways in which the relatively unregulated public space of the frozen lake can be used as a new and challenging artistic environment to expand notions of what art can be.

A four-weekend exhibition of performance, architecture, science, art, video, literature, survivalism and karaoke, ASP is part sculpture park, part artist residency and part social experiment, inspired by traditional ice fishing houses that dot the state’s lakes in winter.
